VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING:
The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Angove owned Nanya Vineyard and other premium growers in the region. Abundant sunshine, fertile soils and idyllic conditions allow our vineyard managers to produce grapes that are full of vibrant fruit characters.
2010 was almost a perfect vintage. After a long wait some water returned to the Murray Darling system, the life blood of Australia’s inland regions, and growers were able to irrigate sensibly. The weather was consistent with sunny days and cool nights, except for a short heat spell in early November which stressed vines whilst flowers were setting. A subsequent smaller than normal yield resulted, which in turn meant more intense flavour.
Picked late at night to harvest the grapes as cold as possible the grapes were transported to the winery and pressed using modern membrane tank presses. After cold settling the clear juice was carefully racked to cooled fermentation tanks and inoculated with selected yeasts. Cool fermentation was followed
by minimal handling filtration and bottling at the Angove winery.
WINEMAKERS’ NOTES:
Attractive pale-medium straw in colour with green hues, this wine has attractive aromas of ripe stone fruit, melon and peach.
The palate has good weight with peach and melon flavours dominating with a hint of citrus, tasty vanillian oak, good length and a soft smooth finish.
Enjoy this wine well chilled, along, or with any lighter foods. Particularly good with seafood.

James Halliday Aust. Wine Companion 2012 Edition - 87 Points - 4 Stars
“Fresh, pleasant unoaked chardonnay, light-bodied but in no way forced. Astonishing golds (Berlin and Concours Mondial).”
The Age - Ralph Kyte-Powell - 16.11.10 - 3 Stars
“The Angove name on a reasonably priced bottle of wine is usually a guarantee of value. This everyday chardonnay from the South Australian Riverland has attractive fig and melony fruit on the nose, a whisper of oak, light to medium body, and a soft, clean finish. Easy-drinking, simple chardonnay for summer.”
Quaff 2011 - Peter Forrestal
The Best Wines in Australia Under $15 - Bloody Good
"This cheapie from Angove is a surprise packet. It is bright, fresh and splashy, with pristine peach and melony flavours that are rich and ripe. Although light of body, it has terrific intensity and fairly zings. Great value."
Western Suburbs Weekly - 05.10.10 - 17.8 Points also appeared in the Joondalup Weekender
“One of the few very reasonably priced examples that actually tastes like chardonnay rather than a concoction of viscous cordial.”
Newcastle Herald - John Lewis - 06.10.10
“The 2009 chardonnay is olive green-tinted gold in colour and has passionfruit aromas. Ripe golden peach flavour asserts on the front of the palate and citrus and nougat fruit character meld with almond-edged oak on the middle palate. Slatey acid comes through at the finish.”
Fine Wine Club - Barry Weinman - Sept 2010
“Refined and elegant, this has a lovely nose of peaches and a creamy undertone. The palate is fine, though a touch firm. There is lemony acid and a strong minerality. Excellent length and texture. Very well made, and the oak handling is very clever.”
Bairnsdale Advertiser - Mick Plozza - 25.06.10
"This wine features soft peach and melon characters, which lead the generously flavoured palate, with extra complexity derived from the subtle use of oak."
2009 Vintage - Concours Mondial Bruxelles, 2010 - GOLD
2009 Vintage - Berliner Wine Trophy, 2010 - GOLD

The 2009 vintage was relatively cool, the exception being a short heatwave in February. This cooler year has been great for aromatic varietal expression, and a general lack of disease pressure has allowed us to harvest the fruit at optimal ripeness. White varieties also benefited from a juicy natural acidity contributing to excellent palate weight and flavour persistence overall.
